This week's training didn't start off too well. I tried to run at the in-laws on Sunday, but after almost falling on the ice twice, I decided to call it quits. Then on Monday we weren't able to get all the way home because of the weather and by the time we got home Tuesday I was exhausted! I can't wait for spring and the end of this seemingly endless winter!
Sunday: Ran 0.52 miles before quitting because of icy roads
Monday: None
Tuesday: None
Wednesday: Bike on trainer 45:00, 15.67 miles
Thursday: Swim 1250yds (200wu, 20 min continuous, 250cd), felt terribly slow, had a hard time keeping form
Friday: Ran 1mile on treadmill, 9:07. Then Liam woke up and I didn't get him back to bed until 11pm so I decided to just go to bed!
Saturday: Bike 30 minutes on trainer, 9.62 miles. Legs were dead again.
So this hasn't been a great training week. I also started doing a core routine on Thursday. I think this may be the reason my legs are so tired. I was supposed to go longer on Saturday's ride but I need to get out for a decent run today (Sunday) so I stopped early to spare my legs. I also skipped the core routine on Saturday in the hope that my legs won't be so tired on today's run.
Only one more week until I officially start the triathlon training program!

15-Minute Creamy Avocado Pasta
"Oh…my….gosh.
Alert the grocery store because there is going to be an avocado shortage in my town. Well, more than usual that is.
[And yes, I said ‘store’. As in singular…We’re small town folk.]"
(Quoted directly from Oh She Glows)
I could have written these comments about this pasta myself (including the one about one grocery store!) This stuff is absolute perfection! No changes were needed with this recipe so I'm just going to link to her blog. Also, my pictures were terrible so I'll let you look at hers and leave you instead with a picture of my son shoveling this pasta in as fast as he could. He loved it, too! Check this recipe out, you won't be sorry. This stuff is delicious!

I realized today that I didn't post my training for last week. Here it is:

Monday: Run 3 miles, 30:08
Tuesday: Bike on trainer 45:00, 14.62 miles
Wednesday: Run 4 miles, 41:07
Thursday: Swim 2500 yds (600wu, Pulls-6x150, Pulls-6x100,Pulls-6x50, 100cd)
Friday: Bike on trainer, 90:00, 28.3 miles

I am happy to say that I had no knee pain on any of my runs this week. It has to be the way I change my stride to adjust to the treadmill.
This week's training info will follow shortly!

Training Log Feb 6-12 and Injury Update
Another rest week because of the knee. I originally thought that I would be able to get back to it this week but that didn't work out. Monday I was sick. Tuesday I ran and had pain running until I started striking midfoot instead of heel-striking. Then I was sick again the rest of the week and my knee hurt. Soooo, that leads to yet another rest week.
BUT...
I believe I have found the source of my tendinitis! We went for a walk yesterday and I jogged just a little to test my knee out. There was NO PAIN! So I started thinking about it and figured out that my knee pain started about 6 weeks after I started running exclusively on the treadmill and 3 weeks after I went from all runs at 0% incline to all runs at 1% incline. So I went outside for a mile today, again, no pain! I think it may just be the treadmill. It's supposed to be nice out all week so I'm looking forward to getting more runs in outside to really test out my theory.
So anyway, here's the one day from this last week:
Tuesday: Run 1 mile on treadmill, 9:40; Bike on trainer, 20:20, 7.06mi

Training Log Jan 30-Feb 5
Sunday: Ran 2 miles on treadmill, 19:20; Bike on trainer 9 mi, 28:35
That's all. Yep, just one day last week. After Sunday my knee started hurting again. Friday was the first day it didn't hurt. I figure I'd rather take the time off now than have to take time off in the middle of my marathon/triathlon training. Unfortunately it's getting close enough to the start of the training program that I'm afraid I won't have the base necessary for my long workouts. I may have to modify the program so that I don't do too much too fast and have even more trouble with this stupid knee.
I was going to start working out again today after having a few pain-free days. That plan was foiled by the virus I seem to have come down with. Right after half-time during the Superbowl last night, my throat started to hurt. By the time we went to bed my throat hurt pretty bad, the lymph nodes in my neck were swollen, I had a slight fever, chills, and ached all over. The only thing that has kept me feeling okay today has been keeping Tylenol in my system. If I get a little past time for the next dose, I start to hurt again.
I guess that screws up my workout plans again. Grrrrr.
